ViaWest Increases Footprint in Utah
Online retailer, Backcountry.com supports its growth with ViaWest services

Denver – June 27, 2007 – ViaWest, a leading provider of adaptable colocation and managed hosting solutions, today announced it has increased the number of local businesses utilizing its colocation and managed services in Utah with the addition of Backcountry.com, an online retailer of hard core outdoor adventure gear and clothing based in Park City, Utah. ViaWest currently serves more than 200 businesses in Utah and has experienced significant growth since the beginning of 2007, including the addition of a new data center in Salt Lake City and several new Utah-based customers.

A recent report by Tier1 Research found that North America is seeing strong demand for data centers citing demand increased 14.67 percent in the last 12 months. Demand drivers include growth in Internet content sites (including content delivery networks), the need for enterprises to maintain business continuity (largely driven by Hurricane Katrina and Sarbanes-Oxley) and ever-increasing needs for power and cooling in the face of modern computing equipment.

“We have watched demand for managed hosting and colocation services steadily increase on an industry basis. ViaWest’s tremendous growth is reflective of both industrial growth and our competitive position in the markets we share,” said Roy Dimoff, CEO and co-founder, ViaWest. “The addition of Backcountry.com to our growing customer base reaffirms the importance among small-and-midsize businesses to protect their organization’s information and overall infrastructure to avoid down time and other risks that can severely impact their business.”

Backcountry.com operates six separate retail websites (Backcountry.com, BackcountryOutlet.com, Dogfunk.com, Tramdock.com, SteepandCheep.com and WhiskeyMilitia.com) offering online shoppers more than 250 brands and nearly 50,000 products for outdoor enthusiasts. The company has grown significantly since its inception in 1996, and requires a robust data center and comprehensive data services to sustain its growth and support its online commerce. ViaWest will provide colocation services to Backcountry.com as well as storage and security within its Salt Lake City data center.

“We thoroughly researched other providers and we chose to work with ViaWest for four reasons,” said Dave Jenkins, chief technical officer, Backcountry.com. “ViaWest offers a robust network, reasonable pricing, and adequate space to suit our needs in its state-of-the-art data center. Plus, ViaWest’s Utah data center is conveniently located very near our warehouse in Salt Lake City.”

ViaWest provides customers with a world-class facility with easy access to its equipment, a backbone network, redundant power and environmental controls, fire detection systems, high-level security, onsite service and extensive disaster recovery plans.
